2022 Ram SUV: Rumors and Expectations

Is it time to finally see an SUV under Ram’s badge? According to our reliable sources, this could really happen in the near future. In the past, there was a famous model called Ramcharger, under Dodge’s badge. These days, when Ram is pretty much an independent brand, we may see this nameplate once again. Whether it comes with the famous name or with something else, we have no doubt that many car enthusiasts would be very excited to see a genuine SUV from FCA, which would take on models like Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe etc. For now, we will call it the 2022 Ram SUV.

The catch with this model is that it would be a genuine SUV, not a unibody crossover. We would see a traditional body-on-frame layout, which guarantees strong performances in all fields, particularly in terms of off-roading and utility. The new model is expected to compete in the segment of full-size SUVs, so we can make some of the key predictions about it.

2022 Ram SUV Design

Of course, we should start with base design characteristics. From what we know about the 2022 Ram SUV, the new model would stick to the traditional, body-on-frame layout. As you may presume, it would share the platform with the current-generation Ram 1500, which has been around for a few years. This truck is among the best models in the class, so there is no doubt that this SUV would get an excellent basis.

Still, some modifications would be required. One of the first things that come to mind is the suspension setup. Despite that Ram 1500 features pretty advanced suspension, the new SUV would rather come with a couple of tweaks. This particularly refers to the rear axle, which should come with an independent suspension. That’s pretty much a golden standard in the segment these days, so there is no doubt that Ram would use it as well.

Exterior

Another thing that comes to mind is the size. At this point, it is still early to talk about precise numbers but we have no doubt that the new 2022 Ram SUV will compete in the segment of full-size SUVs. If we look at models like Expedition and Tahoe, it’s not hard to conclude that the SUV would feature around 120 inches in wheelbase, roughly. A long-wheelbase version is also possible

Finally, there is the styling. Although the testing model is yet to appear, we have no doubt that Ram’s current design language would be followed pretty much entirely. Of course, we are talking about the truck sibling. The two models would feature pretty much identical front ends. Of course, the rest of the body would come in a typical SUV manner, with a boxy shape and a typical, wagon-like body.

Interior

If you look at the current-generation Ram 1500, it looks really impressive. The overall quality is pretty much on par with many luxury SUVs, while aesthetics are as impressive. Therefore, we presume that the eventual arrival of the 2022 Ram SUV would bring no significant changes in this aspect. Of course, we are talking about the dashboard and similar areas. On the other side, the SUV shape obviously means a significant difference in terms of seating configurations and similar things.

With such dimensions, the 2022 Ram SUV would certainly come with three rows of seats. Moreover, all of them should be adult-friendly. Furthermore, the cargo area should offer some respectable numbers too. We roughly estimate something like 120 cubic feet of the overall volume.

Naturally, the new cabin would come equipped with all kinds of advanced tech features, starting from the latest infotainment system, large touchscreen, smartphone connectivity features and similar things.

2022 Ram SUV Engines

Things under the hood are quite easy to predict, as we have no doubt that the 2022 Ram SUV would stick to FCA’s familiar units. Therefore, base models would probably come with a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 305 horsepower. We count on a familiar 5.7-liter V8, which is good for about 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Both engines should be available with the company’s new mild-hybrid system called eTorque.

We count on a diesel version too. This one would come with a familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Hi-performance versions are also possible, including ones with a monstrous Hellcat engine.

2022 Ram SUV Release Date and Price

At this point, the company is still quiet about the 2022 Ram SUV, so you should take these paragraphs with a reserve. Still, keep a small dose of optimism, as various sources suggest this is actually going to happen. We presume that the base price would be similar to closest rivals, which in practice means around 50.000 dollars, roughly. More details should come soon.

Timothy

Timothy has been an FCA enthusiast way before the two major companies merged. With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona. For Timothy, FCA is a perfect match.

Used to have a ram 1500, love love loved it, family needs pushed us into a full size suv, wasn’t an easy decision on what to get… if ram made what we had in a full sized suv. The decision would have been A LOT simpler.
