2024 RAM 3500 Preview, Specs, Changes

The current generation of Ram’s 1-ton pickup has been around for a while and despite it is still a pretty amazing machine, the competition is getting better and better. That’s why the company has started with updates. The 2023 model is almost ready and it will bring notable updates, particularly in terms of aesthetics. However, additional updates are expected with the 2024 RAM 3500 as well. That model is about to get more substantial updates, according to the latest rumors.

The latest rumors suggest changes under the hood. Allegedly, we are about to see some engine upgrades and, more importantly, a new transmission for the diesel version. These upgrades should make this pickup even more appealing, as both ride quality and utility are expected to improve. Still, the overall layout will remain largely the same, which isn’t a bad thing at all, as this model still leads the segment in so many different aspects.

2024 RAM 3500 Design

Design-wise, the 2024 RAM 3500 probably won’t get significant changes. As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 model is about to receive some updates, so we expect no bigger updates in the following years. This update brings a couple of subtle styling updates, such as a new grille design and a few more revisions to the front fascia.

The 2024 RAM 3500 will continue in the same way. We will see the same design, not just in terms of aesthetics. The mechanical aspect will also remain the same and that’s a great thing to know. Simply, this is where RAM dominates the segment, thanks to its amazing suspension and chassis setup. The ride quality is pretty impressive and at the same time, this pickup offers class-leading work capabilities, including the max towing capacity that goes up to 37.100 pounds with the diesel engine.

Interior

Another aspect where this pickup stands pretty well is the interior design. The cabin features excellent build quality, with nice materials and a lot of attention to detail. Also, there is a pretty generous amount of space in each cab style, which puts this pickup among class leaders when it comes to comfort.

Therefore, we are pretty sure that the 2024 RAM 3500 won’t bring bigger changes. We expect to see a familiar cabin layout, as well as familiar features. Of course, there is always room for minor updates, such as new color schemes and materials but the overall design will remain unchanged. This includes the dashboard as well, which will probably continue with the same configurations in terms of tech goodies.

Features

Novelties in terms of standard and available equipment are certain. We presume that each trim level could come with a few novelties but we are also pretty sure that most things are about to remain the same. So, expect to see base models with essentials only, with goodies like 18-inch steel wheels, vinyl seats and floors, manual windows and other accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, Class V hitch and a small 5-inch infotainment screen. Of course, many more things will be available and higher trim levels will gradually offer more and more standard equipment.

Speaking of the trim levels, we are pretty sure that the organization will remain the same. So, base models will continue with the Tradesman badge. The rest of the lineup will include Big Horn, Laramie, Longhorn and Limited models.

2024 RAM 3500 Engines

As we already mentioned, we could see some pretty interesting powertrain updates. On one hand, we don’t expect to see anything more important in terms of the gasoline model. It should continue with a good-old 6.4-liter HEMI V8, which puts out around 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes coupled with a super-smooth 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the diesel version could get some upgrades. This particularly refers to the base version, which currently puts out around 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. We could see some power and torque increase. The high-performance version of this 6.7-liter inline-six turbodiesel could also come with some upgrades, especially in terms of torque. At this point, the engine puts out around 420 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is still a lot of talk about a new transmission for diesel. The current model uses a good-old 6-speed unit from Aisin and rumors about its replacement have been circulating for a while. Most unofficial reports suggest a 10-speed unit, though more precise information is still unavailable.
