The current generation of RAM HD series has been around for a couple of years. In 2023, it will be a perfect time for mid-cycle updates, so many believe that the 2023 RAM 2500 could come with a couple of interesting changes. At this point, the officials are still quiet about the update, while the rumors suggest all kinds of changes. Some of them refer to the visual appearance, while others refer to mechanics.
At this point, we can only speculate about the changes. However, if we consider that the competition is getting stronger every year, we have no doubt that the company will do something to retain the current position on the market. We presume that some styling changes could be offered. Also, it’s about time to see the new transmission. Once again, the officials are still quiet, so take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.
2023 RAM 2500 Design
The 2023 RAM 2500 will represent the fourth production year of the generation, so we believe there could be some pretty interesting updates. This seems like a good time for a mid-cycle update, which would bring novelties in various aspects. First of all, we might see a couple of styling changes. The current model looks good, but rivals look better. That’s why we expect to see some revisions at the front, in areas like headlights, grille, bumper etc. Other typical mid-cycle updates are also possible – things like new wheels, color options, appearance packages etc.
Besides styling changes, we could also see changes regarding mechanics. For example, we could see a few tweaks to the suspension setup, which would make it even more capable. Besides improved towing and payload capacity, these changes may also improve the ride quality, even though RAM is the absolute class leader in this aspect.
Interior
We don’t believe that the 2023 RAM 2500 could come with too many changes on the inside. Simply, the current model already looks pretty impressive and offers better quality and comfort compared to rivals. That’s why the 2023 RAM 2500 interior will probably continue in the same way, with the same fine materials and great overall build quality. On the other hand, there is always room for minor updates, such as new color schemes, new materials, and similar things. Of course, we can always see novelties in terms of new standards and available tech features, even though the current model stands pretty well in this aspect.
On the other side, the overall layout definitely won’t change. We are about to see the same cabin design, with the same amounts of passenger space, no matter which of the three familiar cab styles you choose, along with familiar bed sizes.
2023 RAM 2500 Engines
Things under the hood aren’t expected. We are pretty sure that the 2023 RAM 2500 will continue with familiar engine options in the offer. So, base versions should come with a 6.4-liter HEMI engine, which puts out around 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.
Of course, we count on a diesel version as well. It will continue with the good-old 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six engine, which puts out around 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque in its base variant. We believe that the company will also offer a more powerful version, which has been reserved only for the 3500 model so far. This version features a max output of 400 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque.
What About New Transmission?
When it comes to the transmission, the gasoline model comes in pair with an excellent 8-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission, which does a fantastic job. On the other side, things are a little bit different in the case of the diesel version.
The Cummins engine still uses a 6-speed automatic transmission to send its power to the wheel. We are talking about a good-old Aisin unit, which is reliable and durable, and which doesn’t have any major drawback, except for the lack of speeds. Simply, rivals use 10-speed units, so we may expect RAM to offer something similar in the future.
We saw numerous reports about the 2022 RAM HD models and new transmission. Many expected to see new models with Allison transmission, the same one that’s used in Silverado HD models. However, that didn’t happen. It is still the first option in minds of most experts, but we won’t exclude other scenarios either. One of them is to see a new unit from Aisin, which is allegedly in development.
2023 RAM 2500 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 RAM 2500 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2022. The price shouldn’t change significantly, so base versions should go around 37.000 dollars.
