Although the full-size truck has been redesigned recently, this year is also very important. The oil-burner has come back after a short hiatus. The new generation comes with a familiar engine but gets a nice update in terms of power and torque. The new 2020 Ram EcoDiesel comes with a familiar 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. Still, the familiar unit gets a nice update, so a max output goes up to 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. With such numbers, the Ra EcoDiesel is a quite capable truck in many aspects. First of all, it is great in terms of towing, but it is also a quite fast pickup. Of course, it’s not as fast as gasoline versions, but you definitely get something much more than a towing mule with this engine.

The accrual 2020 Ram EcoDiesel 0-60 time depends on the trim level and configuration. In most cases, this truck needs around 8 seconds to hit 60 mph. If you get a hi-grade Limited trim, you may count on a half-second quicker time, which seems quite respectable for a truck that has less than 300 horsepower. For comparison, that’s a full second faster compared to the previous generation. The new model is also faster when it comes to ¼ mile, where it needs less than 16 seconds now.

The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel 0-60 time is notable better compared to the previous model, but improvements are significant in other aspects as well. This particularly refers to max towing capacity. The new EcoDiesel can tow up to 12.560 pounds, which is a pretty impressive number for the class. That’s significantly more compared to the base V6 version, as well as the V8 model without the eTorque system, which can tow up to 11.610 pounds. The most capable Ram 1500 is the V8 model, which can tow around 12.750 pounds, which is just a little bit higher compared to the EcoDiesel.

The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel looks even better when compared with closes rivals. Of course, the first one that comes to mind is the diesel version of F-150. This truck features a good-old 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel, which is good for about 250 horsepower and can tow up to 11.400 pounds.

On the other side, the new Silverado 1500 diesel comes with a max output of 280 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This truck is pretty fast, but isn’t quite capable, as it features a max towing capacity of only 9.400 pounds.

The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel 0-60 may not be the fastest in the company’s range of models, but this version has so many things to offer. This model is by far the best choice for those who want both great towing ratings and fuel economy, but don’t necessarily need some spectacular performances.  This particular version returns around  25 mpg in a combined ride, while you can easily make more than 30 miles per gallon on the highway. For comparison, the V8 gasoline model returns around 15/16 mpg in a combined ride.

2020 Ram EcoDiesel Trim Levels

A great thing to know is that the 2020 Ram EcoDiesel is available in almost every trim level. The only trim that doesn’t come with this engine in the offer is the HFE model. Other trim levels offer this engine as an option.

Therefore, the EcoDiesel is available already in the base Tradesman model, which is a pretty basic version of the truck, equipped with steel wheels, small 5-inch touchscreen and similar things. Of course, there is the popular Big Horn model, which comes with various upgrades like aluminum wheels, larger touchscreen, smartphone integration and many other goodies.

The mid-range Laramie offers a great balance between price and quality, as it brings upgrades like leather upholstery and various other things at pretty reasonable price

Longhorn and Limited trims gradually add more and more standard equipment, as well as various exclusive styling details. Eventually, there is an off-road version called Rebel, which comes with chassis and suspension upgrades, as well as with things like electronic locking rear axle and four skid plates.
