The current generation of RAM’s heavy-duty pickup has been around since 2019 and while it’s still a pretty amazing pickup, the competition is getting better and better. And that’s why we are eagerly expecting to see RAM’s response. Allegedly, it could come already in the form of 2024 Ram HD, which is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh. Although it’s still unofficial, it is quite possible to see not just typical changes within the production cycle, but much more than that. That particularly refers to the diesel version, as the 2024 Ram HD could finally get Allison transmission, so much anticipated.
Other than that, we presume we could see typical mid-cycle updates. This refers to the styling, which could get a few aesthetical tweaks, while further upgrades under the hood are also possible. As for the interior design, we don’t believe we could see some significant changes, but it’s always possible to see tweaks within trim levels, in terms of standard equipment and similar things.
2024 Ram HD To Get Allison Transmission
As mentioned, this is arguably the most anticipated update for the 2024 Ram HD. The current model comes in two variants and the one that feels a little bit behind the competition is the diesel version, which still relies on a good-old 6-speed automatic from Aisin. Although a great, super reliable gearbox, it feels a little bit outdated when compared to rival units from Ford and Chevy, which both feature 10 gears. That’s why many expect to finally see changes. Allegedly, the diesel-powered 2024 Ram HD is going to get a 10-speed automatic gearbox from Allison, which should have a positive impact on fuel economy, towing capacity and overall performance.
As for the gas-powered model, it already features an 8-speed gearbox sourced from ZF and it is arguably the best transmission in the class, so there is no reason to expect any changes.
2024 Ram HD Engines
As for the powertrain, we presume that standard, gas-powered models are about to carry on in the same way. The good-old 6.4-liter HEMI V8 is about to continue with the same specs, with a max output that goes around 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Some sources speculate about the addition of the new Hurricane inline-six engine, but we are pretty sure that’s not going to happen so soon.
On the other hand, we might see some upgrades in the case of the diesel version. The current 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel comes in two variants, starting from the base model that puts out 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful variant is good for 400 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque and many believe that this version of the engine could finally be offered in the 2500 model, while the 3500 model could get an even more capable version, with further power and torque upgrades.
2024 Ram HD Design
The 2024 Ram HD is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh. So, besides powertrain and transmission upgrades, we presume it will also feature novelties in terms of aesthetics. We could see a facelift that would bring a new face, with changes in areas like headlights, grille, bumper etc. The rest of the truck shouldn’t change too much, though there is always room for things like new wheels, new colors, new special editions etc.
The trim level organization should remain pretty much the same. This means that the 2024 Ram HD will continue with two dedicated off-roaders on offer, both Rebel and Power Wagon. The former is a more utilitarian kind of off-roader, while the Power Wagon offers better suspension articulation and sacrifices a little bit of towing capacity for the sake of off-road performance.
Interior
On the other hand, RAM’s interior already looks pretty amazing, so we don’t believe we could see bigger changes in this aspect. The current model already impresses with materials and aesthetics, so we are pretty sure that the 2024 Ram HD is about to carry on without more important changes. Naturally, it’s always possible to see novelties in terms of tech features and other standard equipment but, as we mentioned, the trim level organization will most likely remain unchanged.
2024 Ram HD Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Ram HD will arrive by the end of this year, with a starting price of around 50,000 dollars.
