2021 Jeep Renegade: PHEV, Changes, Specs

The current Renegade is a relatively old vehicle, as it has been around since 2014. However, it still has a lot of things to offer, especially if we consider that the company is preparing some interesting novelties for the next year. Of course, we won’t see a complete 2021 Jeep Renegade redesign, as some reports were suggesting. The company is currently busy with the lineup renewing in the form of new Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee etc. On the other side, the Renegade won’t come completely new, but it will get a completely new, electrified powertrain.

Other than a new hybrid version, we probably won’t see any particular changes. We count on familiar design characteristics, though novelties in terms of standard features are always possible, so each trim level could come with a couple of interesting new things. Still, these will be pretty minor novelties, so we expect that the 2021 Jeep Renegade release date will be scheduled for a typical time of year, though the new hybrid could arrive a little bit earlier.

2021 Jeep Renegade Hybrid

The biggest novelty for the next year will definitely be the new hybrid model. The 2021 Jeep Renegade PHEV already had a premiere and we know all the specs of the new powertrain. Of course, the first thing we should mention is that the system is based on a familiar 1.3-liter turbocharged engine and comes with an electric motor and a battery pack. The total output goes up to 240 horsepower, which will make this SUV able to hit 60 in less than 6 seconds.

As we are talking about a plug-in hybrid, you may count on the all-electric range, which will, in this case, go a little bit over 30 miles, while the max speed in this mode will go over 80 miles per hour. Allegedly, this version won’t be offered in North America, but rather on abroad markets like Europe, China, South America etc. We are still waiting to hear some words from the officials on this matter.

2021 Jeep Renegade Engines

While the new 2021 Jeep Renegade PHEV is still uncertain for the North American market, the current gasoline units are expected to carry on in the same way. That means base models will continue with a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers around 180 horsepower. You can also get a smaller and more efficient 1.3-liter turbo-four, which is good for 177 horsepower.

Both engines come with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. When it comes to fuel economy, neither of these to units is particularly efficient. The base engine returns around 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, while the turbo-four is slightly better.

When it comes to off-road performances, all models are pretty capable. Still, the best choice will definitely be the 2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, which comes with upgrades like four-wheel drive, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, a traction management system, skid plates etc.

Styling and Interior Design

When it comes to aesthetics, we don’t expect any particular changes. This crossover has been updated a couple of years ago. The 2019 facelift has brought a couple of interesting styling updates, such as new front and rear bumper, bigger grille, new LED headlights etc. The new hybrid model shouldn’t feature any particular styling change.

The same thing refers to interior design. We are about to see a familiar cabin design, which looks quite attractive and comes will a relatively long list of standard equipment. Also, you may count on a generous amount of headroom, while the legroom in the second row is a little bit tight. On the other side, the cargo area features pretty typical numbers for the class, as you may count on 18.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 50.8 cubic feet of the overall cargo space.

Features

As we already mentioned, novelties in terms of standard equipment are always possible. Therefore, each trim level could come with a couple of novelties. Still, most of the things are expected to remain the same. Therefore, base models will probably carry on with things like a 5-inch touchscreen, voice control, Bluetooth, a USB port, and six speakers. Things like bigger 7- and 8.4-inch touchscreens will be available in higher trim levels, as well as things like a nine-speaker premium audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, HD radio, satellite radio etc.

On the other side, we would definitely like to see more standard safety features. Currently, a rearview camera is the only standard safety feature. On the other side, Blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and many other things are optional.

2021 Jeep Renegade Release Date and Price

While the hybrid version might come a little bit earlier, the rest of the lineup should come in a typical time of year. When it comes to the new Jeep Renegade 2021 price, we don’t expect bigger changes, so base models should go around 22.500 dollars. The price for the new hybrid model is still a mystery.
