2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel Is Coming Back!

The next generation of the famous SUV is definitely one of the most anticipated novelties for the next year. Simply, this mid-size crossovers draws so much attention, even though it is one of the oldest models in the segment. The current generation has been around for a full decade, but it is a well-engineered vehicle, which has received a couple of updates, so it doesn’t seem outdated at all. After all, sales numbers are better than ever.

Still, the competition is getting stronger every year, so the company wants to keep these amazing sales numbers. One of the ways to do that is to offer a wide range of engine options. Therefore, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel seems like a certain thing. At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, but there is a big chance to see two diesel options in the offer for the next generation. We expect it will hit the market by the end of the year.

As we’ve just mentioned, the upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties, and this may mean two diesel options. The first one, of course, is a well-known 3.0-liter V6, which powers the current generation as well. Of course, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel will come with upgrades and updates. Some sources suggest the same version as for the Ram 1500. This means that the max output would be increased to 260 horsepower and pretty impressive 480 pound-feet of torque.

There is also a chance to see another diesel option in the offer. This engine would be reserved for the European market and it would be a smaller, four-cylinder unit. That would probably be a familiar 2.2-liter turbodiesel, the same one that powers Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the future sibling, which is available in a version with 180 horsepower.

The upcoming redesign will bring a full load of novelties. So, you may expect a lot from the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The new model will ride on Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform, which already undeprints Stelvio. Of course, it will be notably stretched for this occasion. Moreover, the wheelbase will be much longer not just compared to Stelvio but also compared to the current Grand Cherokee, which measures more than 114 inches between the wheels. Most likely, the new model will go somewhere between 116 and 118 inches.

This platform will bring many benefits, starting from significant weight reduction, lower center of gravity and improved performances. All this should provide a significantly better driving experience compared to the current model.

Styling and Interior

Naturally, the upcoming redesign will also bring completely new styling. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we presume that changes will be mostly evolutionary. That means you may count on a familiar but slightly updated grille with all those vertical bars, while the overall shape will remain pretty much the same.

As we already mentioned, the new model will be bigger, which means you may count on more space on the inside as well. This clearly indicates that we are finally about to see three rows of seats. Still, the third row will most likely be an option. Of course, we count on a completely new dashboard design, with more modern aesthetics and finer materials, though we have to say that the current model still looks pretty well. Finally, we count on a full load of latest tech goodies, including the new 12-inch touchscreen that debuted recently in the new Ram 1500.

How about other engine options?

Besides the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel, the upcoming redesign will also bring the whole palette of gasoline engine options, and many of them will come in some form of electrifications. This particularly refers to smaller engines, so base models will probably feature a small turbo-four engine, equipped with a mild hybrid system. A well-known 3.6-liter V6 should remain in the offer as well, equipped with the new eTorque system.

HEMI units are expected as well, including the most powerful Hellcat supercharged engine, which will be reserved for the Trackhawk versions. Soon after we would see a plug-in version in the offer as well. Still, this model definitely won’t be ready for the initial launch.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel Release Date And Price

The new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel was expected to hit the market sometime in the second half of the year. However, the current situation with the Coronavirus may cause some delays. So, the launch may be moved for the next year. In any case, we presume that this particular version will probably cost around 35.000 dollars.
