One of the most famous SUV makers is finally about to offer a full-size body-on-frame SUV, in the forms of 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. After decades-long hiatus, the well-known nameplate is coming back and it is reserved for the brand’s new flagship SUV. The testing model has been spotted on the road and it looks like production versions are near. Despite it still wears camouflage, we already know most of the details about the new model, especially when it comes to mechanics and other specs.
This will be a brand-new model in Jeep’s lineup and it will come as a genuine BoF SUV. It will share the platform with RAM 1500 and the latest reports suggest it will stand somewhere between mainstream and compact segments. In practice, this means it will compete with models like Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition, as well as with models like Infiniti QX80, Cadillac Escalade etc. We expect to see the new model go on sale in the next year.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Design
The famous nameplate is coming back after several decades and most car enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the new model won’t go far away from its roots, at least when it comes to base design characteristics. Once again, we are about to see a large and rugged, body-on-frame SUV, which will combine these characteristics with modern features and a high level of refinement.
Mechanically, the new model will have a lot of things in common with RAM 1500. Moreover, the new Jeep Wagoneer 2022 will ride on the same platform and feature pretty much the same mechanics. Still, a couple of tweaks will certainly happen. One of the first that comes to mind is an independent rear suspension, which is pretty much a must-have in this segment these days.
Exterior
When it comes to exterior design, one of the first things that come to mind is the size. We already mentioned that this will be a full-size SUV, so we count on typical dimensions for the segment. In numbers, that would mean something around 122-123 inches in wheelbase, according to our rough estimation. On the other side, the Grand Wagoneer would be a stretched version, with an even longer distance between the axles and overall length.
In terms of styling, the test mule still wears a camouflage. Still, some of the details can be seen already, starting from the front face. This part of the new SUV comes in a typical Jeep layout, with the grille with famous vertical bars and quite rectangular headlights. The rest of the body comes in a typical SUV layout, with boxy shape and lots of straight lines.
Interior
On the inside, the first thing that comes to mind is the amount of space. With such a size, there is no doubt that the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer interior would include three rows of seats as standard. We expect that the third row will be adult-friendly too, while the cargo area should provide some respectable numbers for the class as well. That would be around 120 cubic feet of the overall volume, given the fact that independent rear suspension leaves additional space in the cabin.
When it comes to the dashboard design and overall cabin look, we already mentioned that Jeep tends to be more premium compared to brands like Ford or Chevy. Therefore, we count on a little bit higher overall quality, with attractive dashboard design and fine materials. Naturally, we also count on a long list of standard and available equipment, including latest tech and safety goodies.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Engines
Despite that we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter, we are pretty sure about some of the powertrain options for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. Most likely, base models will come equipped with a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 305 horspeower. In higher trim levels, we expect to see a 5.7-liter V8 engne, which is good for about 395 horsepower. Both engines will come in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission and both should be available in version with a mild-hybrid eTorque system.
Some sources also suggest a diesel options. This one would come with a famililiar 3.0-liter V6, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a chance for some hi-performance version, which could feature more capable HEMI engines, including a Supercharged Hellcat unit.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Release Date and Price
The exact details about the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer release date are yet to come, but the new model will definitely hit the market next year. Pricing is also yet to be announced, but we estimate that base models will go around 60.000 dollars.
