2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Redesign: What to Expect

After a full decade, we are finally about to see a complete overhaul of the legendary SUV. For this occasion, it seems like the company is preparing a full load of novelties. Of course, we are about to see a new platform, new styling and many other novelties. At this point, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in the testing phase and the mule can be spotted on the road. Of course, it is still camouflaged, but we can easily see some of the things that will characterize the new model.

Among the many interesting novelties that are about to arrive, one of the things that attract a lot of attention is a three-row version, which will probably carry a different name. This will definitely provide more versatility in the company’s offer. Also, there is a chance to see some brand-new engine options. A plug-in hybrid is expected as well.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Redesign

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee redesign is about to bring tons of novelties. The first thing that comes to mind is the platform. There is no doubt it’s about the familiar Giorgio platform, which already underprints models like Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia. Of course, it will be significantly stretched for this occasion, as the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee spy photos clearly show that the new generation will feature a longer wheelbase, as well as a longer rear overhang. Also, the new platform will provide massive weight savings, which promises significant improvements in terms of driving dynamics and overall performances.

Another thing we should mention is that the testing model features independent rear suspension. This will significantly improve the ride quality and overall comfort. At this point, it is unclear if this is going to be a standard feature or option.

Styling

Of course, new styling will be an integral part of this redesign. At this point, the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee still wears a complete camouflage, so we can’t talk about details. Still, it seems pretty clear that changes will be rather evolutionary. This definitely means you may count on a familiar 7-bar grille layout, while headlights will probably be a little bit narrower compared to the outgoing model.

The overall shape will also remain similar, though the test model features a little bit more upright grille, while the whole body seems a little bit boxier. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model will be bigger than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase that will provide even more legroom and a higher level of comfort. Another thing we’ve already mentioned is a three-row version, which will probably have a different name. Some reports suggest this version will be called the Grand Commander, though we are still waiting to hear something from the officials.

Interior

You’ve probably read the story about the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior leak that appeared some time ago. According to them, the new model will get a couple of interesting novelties. The first thing that comes to mind is a new 10.1-inch touchscreen, which will probably be options. On the other side, base models will probably come with an 8.4-inch unit. Another thing we expect to see is a digital instrument cluster, while more digital controls, in general, are something we expect to see. Also, we count on a new, rotary dial transmission shifter, instead of a traditional lever.

As we already mentioned, the new model will feature a longer wheelbase and bigger overall dimensions. This also means more space on the inside. Still, the standard Grand Cherokee will carry on with two rows of seats and a spacious cargo area.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engines

This crossover has always been characterized by a wide engine offer and we have no doubt that the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee will carry on in the same way. According to the latest reports, the base model will probably come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, in which the good-old V6 should remain in the offer as well. We count on a diesel engine as well. Of course, that would be a new version of the well-known 3.0-liter turbodiesel, with a max output of 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.

HEMI units should remain in the offer as well and this would include the Trackhawk model as well, which comes with the monstrous 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 engines. Some reports also suggest a new turbo inline-six engine, which should be reserved for some of the hi-end options.

As we already mentioned, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-in Hybrid is also expected, though it probably won’t be ready for the initial launch.
