The moment the public found that Jeep had once again applied for the “Liberty” trademark again, rumors about its comeback started. The familiar nameplate was active during the first and second decades of the 21st century. That model came as a replacement for Cherokee, and it was latest replaced by Cherokee once again. Nowadays, we are getting reports about the 2024 Jeep Liberty, which would once again succeed the Cherokee.
A trademark is just one of the reasons to believe that the nameplate could soon come back. It’s also worth mentioning that the Cherokee Nation Chief stated several times that he would like Jeep not to use this nameplate anymore. For that reason, many reports suggest that the next-generation Cherokee, which is long overdue, could carry the Liberty moniker again, after 12 years.
2024 Jeep Liberty Design
So, if we take this scenario as the most possible, it’s relatively easy to predict the outcome. The current-generation Cherokee has been around since 2014 and it desperately needs updates. So, the 2024 Jeep Liberty would come as a replacement and we presume that other than the name, the overall design approach wouldn’t change much. So, we would once again see an SUV that’s positioned between Compass and Grand Cherokee.
In terms of the overall design, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. It looks like Jeep is preparing a new architecture, a modified version of the familiar Giorgio platform. The key modification would be in terms of the layout. Instead of a more premium setup that includes a longitudinally-mounted engine, the new 2024 Jeep Liberty would feature a transversally-mounted engine and an FWD-biased setup. In that way, it will be cheaper to produce and more affordable to the masses.
As for the exterior design, we presume dimensions could be similar to the outgoing Cherokee, which walks on a fine line between compact and mid-size SUVs. The Liberty would offer a similar size, and it would sit between Compass and Grand Cherokee. In terms of styling, we might see a couple of exclusive details, but we don’t expect Jeep to experiment much with the overall design approach. The well-known seven-sloth grille would still be there, maybe in a slightly different iteration. We presume that the 2024 Jeep Liberty would look a little bit bolder and more rugged than the outgoing Cherokee, which features a surprisingly sleek design for a Jeep.
Of course, this would still be a capable off-roader, despite the unibody platform. We would see short overhangs and respectable ground clearance, while more rugged variants with badges like Trailhawk are also expected. These variants would come with further suspension upgrades, an upgraded 4WD system and some exclusive styling details.
As for the interior design, it’s still early for details. Still, if we consider the way Jeep has been doing interiors in the last few years, we might see a pretty nice cabin, with lots of luxury touches – well-equipped and full of quality materials. Naturally, there should be a good portion of the latest tech features, including the latest version of the Uconnect infotainment system, with a decently-sized infotainment screen.
As for the passenger space, we count on two spacious rows of seats, both comfortable and able to accommodate adults with ease. One of the aspects where we would like to see improvements is the cargo area, as the current-generation Cherokee isn’t particularly impressive in this aspect.
2024 Jeep Liberty Powertrain
As for the powertrain options, one thing is almost certain – there will be no six-cylinder engines anymore. Instead, base models will most likely carry on with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough to ensure respectable driving dynamics, though we would like to see some updates on the transmission. The current Cherokee uses a 9-speed automatic, which hesitates to shift occasionally.
Of course, the four-wheel drive would be part of the standard equipment, and we also count advanced drivetrain with various traction control modes.
Some sort of electrification should also happen. That could easily be a plug-in hybrid setup, similar to Grand Cherokee but slightly detuned. Some sources even speculate about a V6-based system from Pacifica but as we already mentioned, the chances to see a six-cylinder engine in this SUV are very small.
2024 Jeep Liberty Release Date and Price
If we can refer to unofficial reports, the 2024 Jeep Liberty could arrive already in the next year. Considering the position in the company’s lineup, we estimate that the starting price will go somewhere between 30 and 35.000 dollars.
