After the recent update, it looks like the current generation of Jeep’s compact crossover is about to carry on for another few years, before it gets a full redesign. From what we know so far, the company plans to keep this model in production until it offers an electrified successor. As this won’t happen in the next few years, it’s easy to presume that the 2024 Jeep Compass will be a typical carryover model. We count on the same design and features, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates.
In any case, you may expect to see a familiar layout, with familiar pros and cons. This crossover offers pretty impressive off-road performance, while we also like its nice interior and intuitive infotainment system. The list of standard equipment is also pretty long. On the other hand, we don’t like things like uninspiring powertrain, small cargo area and similar things.
2024 Jeep Compass Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2024 Jeep Compass will certainly remain the same. Therefore, you may count on the same design, which was updated recently. It has brought a lot of new things, starting from the new grille, new front bumper with larger air intakes, new LED lighting and more. So, it’s hard to believe that bigger changes may occur before the complete redesign. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see things like new color options or new appearance packages.
Traditionally, the Compass will remain a pretty capable off-roader. You can opt for various upgrades, such as four-wheel drive and the Selec-Terrain system, which offers a variety of off-road modes for different surfaces. Finally, there is the Trailhawk model, which comes with upgraded suspension, low-range gearing, hill descent control, a Rock traction setting, an off-road suspension, additional skid plates, and two tow hooks. Of course, you won’t get the Wrangler’s level of off-road performance but this version definitely can do a lot of things.
The same thing is with interior design. We don’t expect to see bigger changes, especially not after the recent refresh, which has brought new tech features, new materials and many other improvements. The updated models look pretty upscale and definitely can remain fresh in the next couple of years.
On the other hand, things aren’t all that impressive in terms of the passenger and cargo space. The second row of seats is decently sized but rivals like Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V are way more impressive in this aspect. Also, the cargo area offers around 27.2 cubic feet of room behind the back row and 59.8 cubic feet behind the first row, which is less than you get from an average model in this class.
Still, the front seats are very spacious and pretty comfortable. You may count on good side support, while the driving position is high and ensures very good visibility in all directions. The sound insulation is also quite good.
Although novelties in this aspect are always possible, we don’t believe that the 2024 Jeep Compass could bring too many changes. Base models should come standard with goodies like remote keyless entry, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, three USB ports, satellite radio, and voice recognition. Among upgrades, expect to find things like a 10.1-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, wireless device charging, an additional USB port, navigation, a 7-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert etc. The list of optional safety features should include adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, park assist, surround-view camera, traffic sign recognition, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high beams etc.
2024 Jeep Compass Engine
Things under the hood won’t change and the 2024 Jeep Compass will continue with just one powertrain option on offer. That is a good-old 2.4-liter inline-four, which puts out around 180 horsepower. Driving dynamics aren’t particularly great, and the engine doesn’t feel particularly refined either. Still, it proved itself as a fairly reliable unit. In the standard version with front-wheel drive, it comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while 4WD models use a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Both units do a decent job, though you may expect slow downshifts for sure.
When it comes to fuel economy, base models return around 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is slightly below average for the segment. Of course, models with 4WD are slightly thirstier.
2024 Jeep Compass Release Date and Price
The 2024 Jeep Compass should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 27.000 dollars.
