2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Preview, Specs, Features

These days, it looks like everyone talks about the all-electric Wrangler, which could arrive in a year or two. Meanwhile, the 4xe will remain the only electrified version of the legendary SUV, which features a plug-in hybrid setup and which is currently available in just a few versions of the SUV. We don’t expect to see significant changes for the next year, though some sources do suggest the possibility to see this powertrain available in more affordable versions.

Whether this happens or not, the overall layout will remain the same. The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will continue in the same way, based on the four-door Wrangler Unlimited. It offers a pretty capable powertrain, which is pretty efficient at the same time and which comes with a pretty decent all-electric range. Also, it is available in off-road-focused trim levels like Rubicon, so you may count on excellent off-road capabilities as well.

Since we probably won’t be seeing bigger changes for the next year, we expect that the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Design

Design-wise, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will certainly continue in the same way. This particular version debuted in 2021 and it is part of the generation that has been around since 2018. As we already mentioned, this powertrain is available only in four-door models, though you may count on all kinds of customization options, including choices between soft and hard roofs, removable doors and similar things.

The same thing is with the interior design, which comes in Wrangler’s typical fashion. It offers a combination of modern dashboard design and nice but durable materials. Also, this powertrain is offered in higher trim levels only, so there is a pretty long list of standard tech and convenience features. With two spacious rows of seats, the Wranlger 4xe accommodates five adults with ease, while the cargo area also offers some pretty good numbers.

2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Powertrain

Of course, the most interesting part of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is its powertrain. Unlike the Chrysler Pacifica, which was the first PHEV in FCA’s lineup, this powertrain isn’t based on a V6 engine, but rather on a smaller 2.0-liter turbo-four, which offers more torque and better efficiency. The max output goes all-away up to 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in about 6.5 seconds.

When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 20 mpg in standard mode and a pretty good 49 mpg-e in the all-electric mode. The system is equipped with a 17-kWh battery pack, which ensures up to 21 miles of the all-electric range.

Trim Levels

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe might be offered in more trim levels than the current model but the officials are still quiet on this matter. Currently, the plug-in hybrid is available in just three trim levels.

The first one is Sahara trim, which comes with a pretty long list of standard equipment. Some of the highlights are things like an 8.4-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, a nine-speaker stereo, automatic climate control, additional USB ports, a 120-volt household-style power outlet.

The 4xe is also available in Rubicon trim, which is all about off-roading. This one comes standard with goodies like locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tires, heavy-duty Fox shock absorbers, and rock sliders. Also, it comes with a couple of exclusive styling details, such as Rubicon hood decals.

Finally, there is the High Altitude trim, which is mostly about visual upgrades and more convenience. The first thing you’ll notice is the set of pretty unique 20-inch wheels, while the fender flares and bumpers come in body color. On the inside, you may count on upgraded upholstery, a premium Alpine audio system and similar upgrades.

2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, it may become more affordable if the company is willing to offer this powertrain in lower trim levels. On the other hand, the current versions shouldn’t change much in this aspect. So, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara should start at around 54.000 dollars, while the off-road-oriented Rubicon should be available at around $58.000. Finally, the High Altitude should start at slightly under $60.000.
