2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Is On the Way!

The famous SUV has been redesigned recently but that doesn’t mean FCA is done with novelties. One of the biggest additions we are about to see in the near future is a diesel version of the legendary off-roader. The new version will be available this summer and while some reports will be offered as a part of mid-2020 updates, others claim it will come as 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel. In any case, the 2021 model year will have this version in the offer.

At this point, we know that the new version will be pretty capable. We are also pretty sure that the new model won’t be much different in terms of base design characteristics. However, it is still a little bit unclear whether the new version is about to be offered as a separate trim, or it will be one of the engine options in all or just some trim levels.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Specs

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind about this version is powertrain specification. From what we can see on paper, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel engine will be pretty capable. We are about to see the same engine that is already available in the current-generation Grand Cherokee. It is a familiar 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.

We expect it will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, while a manual gearbox option sounds possible as well. With such impressive torque, we expect nothing but excellent performances, especially off the road, where low-end torque is something that you can’t have too much. Also, we count on notable benefits in terms of 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel fuel economy. The current gasoline engine are quite thirsty, so this could be a great alternative for those who look for something much more efficient.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Design

On the other side, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel USA model won’t feature any particular difference in terms of base design characteristics. Count on the same design that has been introduced a couple of years ago and which strictly follows the model’s famous design language. Visual changes were minimal with the last redesign, but a lot of things happened under the skin. The new model is longer, but also lighter.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Price

Of course, there are loads of new technologies. We particularly like the new suspension setup, which provides a smoother ride compared to the predecessor. As you know, this SUV is available in two body styles, with either two or four doors. At this point, we know for sure that the new diesel powertrain will be available in the four-door version, while a two-door version is still a mystery.

Interior

On the other side, the cabin receives a significant update with the recent redesign and we have no doubt that the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel will feature the same layout, with only a slightly different instrument cluster, adapted to diesel powertrain. The dashboard will look pretty much the same, which means the same layout that combines modern shapes and fine but also durable materials. Of course, we also count on a long list of standard features.

At this point, we don’t know whether the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel is about to be offered as a separate trim or as a powertrain option. Currently, base models are equipped with things like a 5-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, eight speakers, push-button start, and cruise control. Of course, there is much more in higher trims, where you can get bigger touchscreens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, satellite radio, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, 9-speaker audio system and more.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Release Date and Price

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel release date is scheduled for this summer. However, we are still waiting for details about the price.

Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid

Besides the new 2021 Jeep Wrangler Diesel, we also expect to see a plug-in hybrid in the near future. The testing model has been spotted already and it looks like the new version will be ready for the next year. At this point, we are still waiting for the official details. Still, it looks pretty certain it will use the same or similar system as Pacifica. The popular minivan is good for about 260 horsepower and features an all-electric range of more than 30 miles. Most likely, the Wrangler will feature a little bit larger battery pack, though the exact details are still unavailable. Also, this powertrain will be reserved for the four-door model. More precise details are yet to come.
