Although the current generation of this compact crossover has been around for a while, the company doesn’t plan a complete redesign in the next few years. After the recent update, we are pretty sure that the current version will remain active for some more time. Smaller updates like new features and color options are always possible, but the overall layout will certainly remain the same.
All in all, you may count on a familiar layout and familiar design characteristics. This SUV still has a lot of good things to offer, starting from attractive styling, very good off-road performance, spacious cabin and intuitive infotainment system. We also like the recently added hybrid version. On the other hand, the main complaints go to things like the weak base engine, small cargo area and lack of modern safety features.
2023 Jeep Compass Design
This aspect definitely won’t bring any changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, which has been updated last year. The recent update has brought new styling, with the new front fascia, new color options and new wheels. However, the overall look remained largely the same and we have no doubt it will remain in the following years as well.
The mechanical aspect of the vehicle hasn’t changed much since the initial launch of this generation. Many parts are shared with the smaller Renegade, but the suspension setup is slightly more refined. The setup is mostly about comfort and the ride quality is very good in that aspect. However, for the same reason, you may count on a lot of body roll in corners.
The 2023 Jeep Compass will continue to offer strong off-road performances. Features like full-time 4WD and a Selec-Terrain management system, which includes Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud settings are available. In higher trim levels, you can also get goodies like upgraded suspension, low-range gearing, off-road suspension, hill descent control, extra skid plates, and two tow hooks.
Interior
The recent update has brought a new interior, which looks way better than before. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which is highlighted by a new infotainment screen. The cabin also features nicer materials than before, while the sound insulation is better. All in all, it’s hard to expect any bigger change for the next year.
The overall cabin layout, of course, will remain the same. This cabin comes with a couple of quite spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adult passengers with ease. On the other hand, the cargo area isn’t that generous. You may count on about 27.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind its rear seats and 59.8 cubic feet in total, which is below average for the segment.
Features
The recent update has brought a couple of very interesting features, starting from new infotainment screens. Base models come with an 8.4-inch unit, while a bigger 10.1-inch screen is also available. Both units are powered by the company’s latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the standard equipment, while you can also get goodies like navigation, wireless charging, voice recognition etc.
When it comes to safety, things aren’t that great. Simply, a rearview camera is the only standard feature, while goodies like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assisting, and automatic high-beam headlights are available only as options.
2023 Jeep Compass Engines
The 2023 Jeep Compass will continue with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower. Along with the engine, you may count on a choice between a 6-speed and 9-speed automatic transmission, depending on what you prefer – FWD or AWD layout. In both cases, the transmission isn’t particularly precise and always struggles to find the right gear. Also, acceleration and overall performance aren’t impressive. Even the fuel economy isn’t great. It goes around 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is below average for the segment.
Some sources speculate about the possibility to see a plug-in hybrid version in the offer. This version already debuted in Europe and if it comes to North America, the 2023 Jeep Compass 4xe would feature a max output of around 240 horsepower, while the max all-electric range would go around 30 miles, thanks to the relatively big 11.4-kWh battery. The officials are still quiet on this matter.
