2022 Dodge Viper Comeback: Rumors and Expectations

For 26 years, Dodge Viper was the best American Supercar. During that period, we saw five generations of it and the last model was eventually discontinued in 2017. Since then, we are hearing reports about its comeback. These days, it looks like something may actually happen. The sixth generation of the iconic supercar might come already in the next year, as the 2022 Dodge Viper.

At this point, the officials are still quiet about the new model. Therefore, we can only speculate about the new model. We presume that Dodge engineers will stick with the tradition and that base design characteristics won’t be different compared to previous versions. On the other side, we expect to see an implementation of all kinds of new technologies. This would also include a new engine, which will probably be smaller.

2022 Dodge Viper Design

As we’ve just mentioned, if the 2022 Dodge Viper arrives, we have no doubt that the base design approach will be the same as in the previous generation. That would mean a typical front mid-engine layout, with the engine positioned behind the front axle. Of course, we would see an implementation of the latest design solutions. We count on independent suspension on both ends, with loads of new components. Naturally, we count on the massive use of lightweight materials, such as carbon fiber, aluminum etc.

In terms of the styling, we don’t expect to see a radical departure from previous generations. All previous models were characterized by sleek profiles, long hoods and a lot of curvy lines. The 2022 Dodge Viper should be no different. Also, we count on both convertible and coupe variants in the offer, where the convertible would probably come first.

Interior

This aspect is still a complete mystery, but have no doubt that the 2022 Dodge Viper would come with just a couple of seats. As we already mentioned, both convertible and coupe variants are expected, and we believe that the convertible would keep a soft roof. Naturally, it would come with significant improvements in terms of interior quality, considering that the previous generations weren’t particularly great in this aspect. This should change, considering that the competition is tougher than ever. We count on hi-end materials, as well as on excellent build quality. A very long list of standard equipment is another thing that comes to mind.

2022 Dodge Viper Engines

One of Viper’s trademarks has always been a massive V10 engine. However, it looks like things are about to changes. If the 2022 Dodge Viper is about to arrive, it would definitely come with a smaller engine. Most likely, we would see a new V8 engine with an aluminum-block engine, which will come as a replacement for the current iron-block HEMI engines.

At this point, it is still early to talk about things like displacement and power. Still, we presume that the base version would be naturally aspirated, with a max output of around 550 horsepower. On the other side, hi-performance variants would probably feature a supercharged version of the engine. In that case, the max output would probably go over 700 horsepower.

2022 Dodge Viper Release Date and Price

While rumors suggest we could see already in the next year, the officials are still quiet. We think that the actual chances are really small and that the company would rather stick with hi-performance versions of Charger and Challenger. If it happens, we presume that the starting price would go around 100.000 dollars.

Timothy has been an FCA enthusiast way before the two major companies merged. With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona. For Timothy, FCA is a perfect match.

Time to stop wishful thinking. The Viper is not, I repeat, not coming back. FCA is too invested in their very expensive electrification of their core lineup to also outlay tens of millions towards a new Viper.
