2024 Dodge Viper: Is 6th Generation More Than Rumor

It’s been five years since the discontinuation of the Viper, which was the only genuine American supercar, according to many car experts and enthusiasts. Even today, we are hoping that the iconic nameplate could be revived but, unfortunately, the officials are still quiet. At this point, the only thing we can do is rely on rumors and various internet reports, which suggest the sixth generation in various forms. Some speculate about a 2024 Dodge Viper with a hybrid powertrain setup, while others believe that the only possible comeback would be in the EV form.

In this article, we will take a quick look at these rumors and speculate about the comeback a little bit. However, make sure to take the following paragraphs with a bit of reserve, considering that the officials are still quiet and that the actual chances to see a comeback of this legend are almost zero.

So, we all wonder what the new version of Viper would look like. While it’s impossible to discuss mechanics at this point, we may presume that the overall design would stick to the proven formula. Therefore, we would expect to see a two-seater, which would come in both coupe and convertible variants. Naturally, it would closely resemble the older generations in terms of exterior design, with a super sleek and rounded look, as well as a super long hood, which has always been one of Viper’s trademarks.

Still, some sources speculate about a different design approach. According to them, the new hybrid supercar could come with a mid-engine setup, which would certainly affect the exterior design. If the company is about to offer an all-electric version, there’s no doubt that the overall shape would also be different, as that model would need a lot of room for the batteries.

2024 Dodge Viper Powertrain

If you look back, the powertrain was always the most important ingredient of Viper’s formula. It was always about a huge engine with plenty of low-end torque and amazing sound. The last version featured a massive 8.4-liter V10 engine, which was good for about 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, which sounded like hell.

The only thing we could know for sure about the 2024 Dodge Viper is that it wouldn’t sound all that good. Simply, it would probably come in some form of electrification. In the best case, it would feature a turbocharger, which would certainly have a negative effect on the sound.

A smaller displacement in a combination with a couple of electric motors is something that comes to mind first, but some reports also speculate about a setup where a massive V10 engine would be the basis. That would certainly provide a proper amount of power and fun but, unfortunately, that’s also the least probable scenario.

Speaking of probability, most experts agree that the only possible way to see the Viper nameplate again is in the form of an EV. Of course, we would see an all-electric supercar with some crazy numbers regarding power. The all-electric powertrain doesn’t necessarily mean a lack of fun. As you may already hear, Dodge is already working on all-electric versions of Charger and Challenger muscle cars and it will install multi-gear transmissions in them, just to emulate the sound of classic ICE performance cars and give enthusiasts a proper alternative.

When could we see the next Dodge Viper?

At this point, the officials are still quiet, so a 2024 Dodge Viper doesn’t sound particularly likely. So, even if we see a Viper again, it probably won’t happen all that soon.

With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona.
