2023 Dodge Journey Comeback: Rumors and Expectations

After a full 12 years of production, the Journey has been discontinued last year. However, it looks like it could come back already in the next year. Some sources like Autoevolution already came with rendering photos and speculate about the new model. There are several reasons why we believe that this nameplate could come back. One of them is the fact that the next-generation Durango is about to switch to a body-on-frame platform, which leaves plenty of space for a mid-size three crossover. Obviously, the 2023 Dodge Journey looks like the best candidate to fill this empty slot. At this point, the officials are quiet.

If the nameplate is about to come back, we know what to expect from it. It should come as a large three-row crossover, like a capable three-row family hauler, in accordance with its nameplate. We expect that the new model could arrive already in the second half of the next year.

2023 Dodge Journey Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, the first thing that comes to mind is the layout. we count on a three-row mid-size crossover and most likely, the new model will ride on the Giorgio platform. This architecture seems like a perfect choice for a crossover like this. It would bring a lot of benefits, especially in terms of ride quality. The new model wouldn’t be just spacious sand practical, it would also be agile and fun to drive.

The new platform would also provide massive weight savings, which means better efficiency too. Still, don’t expect too much in this aspect, as the new 2023 Dodge Journey will certainly carry on mostly with gasoline engine options. More details are expected in the future.

Exterior

From the outside, we expect that Dodge will finally establish a new design language. We count on a lot of influence from Ram trucks. On the other hand, the overall shape should come in a typical crossover manner, combining SUV and wagon design characteristics. The 2023 Dodge Journey should look bold and massive, while the square shape should ensure plenty of interior space and a high level of overall practicality.

When it comes to the overall size, we count on typical dimensions for a large crossover. The new model should be notably bigger than its predecessor, with the wheelbase that goes somewhere between 115 and 118 inches, we presume.

Interior

On the inside, the strongest point of this crossover should be interior space. We presume it will be large enough to accommodate three rows of seats, with a seating capacity for 7 or 8 passengers. All three rows should be spacious and comfortable but the third one, of course, will be less generous and typically tight for the segment.

Besides plenty of passenger space, we count on a nicely designed interior. The dashboard should utilize modern styling, nice materials and good overall quality. Naturally, we also count on a lot of modern tech features, starting from a large infotainment screen, which could be designed in a similar fashion as the one found in the Ram 1500 – large and vertically oriented. The list of safety features should be pretty long too.

2023 Dodge Journey Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we count on a lot of options on the offer. One of them should be a good-old 3.6-liter V6, which would be reserved for base versions. A 2.0-liter turbo-four is expected too, with a max output of 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A high-performance version is possible too, with some of the familiar V8 units that the company currently has on the offer.

We count on some form of electrification too. The first one that comes to mind is a new plug-hybrid setup, which debuted in Wrangler. The new system puts out around 375 horsepower, while the max EV range should go around 30 miles.

All versions would come coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission.

2023 Dodge Journey Release Date and Price

If we can trust rumors, the new model will come already in the next year. However, keep in mind that the officials are still quiet, so take this comeback with a big reserve. If it arrives, we presume that base models would go somewhere between 30.000 and 35.000 dollars.
