2023 Chrysler 300 Redesign: Hybrid, All-Electric, Release Date

If we can trust the latest reports, Stellantis don’t want to give up on Chrysler. The North American carmaker currently has just two models in its portfolio and desperately needs something new. One of them is the Chrysler 300, which has been around for a very long time and feels outdated in many aspects. That’s why we are hearing a lot about the possible redesign, which may occur already in the next year. Allegedly, the new model will come as the 2023 Chrysler 300.

At this point, it’s hard to talk about details and if you read between the lines, it becomes pretty obvious that Stellantis wants to bring back Peugeot to North America. However, this will probably happen in a little bit different way than you expect, under a different badge. Chrysler seems like a perfect choice, though we will have to wait for the officials to be 100% sure.

The current generation has been around for a full decade but the platform is actually from the previous generation, which dates from the early 2000s. That’s why we said that this large sedan desperately needs a redesign. Not only that it looks outdated, but also features outdated technology. Fortunately, novelties will come if we can trust rumors, directly from Europe.

Allegedly, Stellantis will use the Chrysler badge to bring Peugeot back to North America and one of the first models should be the new 2023 Chrysler 300. At this point, the details are still unavailable but we have no doubt that the new model will be relying on the company’s latest platform and the 508 models in particular. Moreover, some sources suggest that the new 300 will be nothing more than a rebadged version of the French sedan.

2023 Chrysler 300 Powertrain

Of course, the use of PSA’s platform will open a whole new world to Chrysler in terms of technology and this particularly refers to the powertrain. We are pretty sure that the new model will abandon old-school large-displacement engines and that the focus will be on electrification. The first powertrain to come should be a hybrid setup.

We presume that could be the same system from Peugeot, which used a pretty efficient system that is based on a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine. The engine gets help from a couple of electric motors, for the total output of 350 horsepower. Such numbers should ensure respectable performances, combined with good fuel economy. In Peugeot, this system comes in pair with an 11-kWh battery pack, which ensures a decent all-electric range as well.

Another important thing to say is that this platform also supports an all-electric setup, so we may see such a version in the future as well.

Sedans Are Fading Out!?

One of the potential issues with the new 2023 Chrysler 300 may be the fact that sedans are nowhere near as popular as they used to be. The car market is mostly about SUVs and crossovers these days, so there’s a chance to see the new model in a little bit different suit.

Instead of a classic sedan body style, the new generation could easily come as a crossover. Of course, the use of a familiar nameplate would be a great way to advertise new technologies and new designs, definitely a great starting point.

If this happens, we presume that the 2023 Chrysler 300 would be a large crossover, probably in the class of mid-size SUVs. More details are still to come.

I’d much rather Stellantis bring actual Peugeot over, rather than disguise its otherwise decent cars under a dying brand. I’d be embarrassed to own a Chrysler, but I’d definitely be interested in Peugeot.
