2022 Baby Jeep: What We Know So Far

The SUV segment is developing at rapid speed and it’s no wonder that we are seeing all kinds of new models every year. Of course, FCA is no exception and the latest reports suggest that Jeep is working on a brand-new model, which will be the smallest in the company’s lineup, even smaller than the Renegade. It will come as the 2022 Baby Jeep and besides a completely new design, it will also bring big novelties in terms of electrification.

At this point, we don’t know much about this model. Still, we may presume that it will offer a typical Jeep design, especially in terms of aesthetics and off-road performances. On the other side, the mechanics are still a mystery, and reports suggest different approaches, using different platforms. In any case, the new model is expected to arrive sometime in the next year.

2022 Baby Jeep Will be Small but Rugged

When it comes to base design characteristics, there are several possibilities for the 2022 Baby Jeep. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Considering that FCA now works together with PSA Group, it’s obvious that Jeep has access to all kinds of small platforms. That’s why many believe that the new 2022 Baby Jeep will have more in common with models from Peugeot, Citroen and Opel, than with Fiat.

While the mechanics are still a mystery, we are pretty sure about the size of this subcompact crossover. Obviously, it will be smaller than the Renegade, which measures 166.6 inches in overall length. The new 2022 Baby Jeep will probably be good for about 155 inches.

However, it won’t have too many things in common with the Renegade, when it comes to aesthetics. Some sources suggest that this small SUV will rather use Wrangler as inspiration, so we may see a small SUV with a boxy shape and rugged appearance, which indicates Suzuki Jimny may be one of its key rivals. After all, we don’t expect to see 2022 Baby Jeep in North America but rather offered in Europe and Asia.

Interior

This aspect of the 2022 Baby Jeep is still a complete mystery. Still, if the new model is about to take inspiration from Wrangler in terms of exterior, we presume Jeep designers would use the same approach in designing the interior. The dashboard would rather look rugged and feature hard and durable materials, though we wouldn’t expect to see a lack of any tech features.

Considering the expected size, the amount of passenger space certainly won’ be generous and the same thing goes for the cargo area.

2022 Baby Jeep Engines

The engine lineup depends on the platform but one of the things that seem certain is electrification. Moreover, we count on both plug-in hybrid and EV variants. FCA has already developed few pretty capable plug-in hybrid systems. On the other side, PSA already has a platform for electric vehicles, so we might see a familiar set up with a 50-kWh battery and 136-hp electric motor in this crossover as well.

Of course, we count on standard internal-combustion variants as well. The first engine that comes to mind is a 1.2-liter Pure Tech three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, which puts out around 150 horsepower. We could also see a diesel option, equipped with a familiar 1.5-liter BlueHDi turbodiesel.

Timothy

Timothy has been an FCA enthusiast way before the two major companies merged. With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona. For Timothy, FCA is a perfect match.
