2020 Jeep Wagoneer: Comeback, Specs, Features

Bringing back familiar nameplates is quite popular these days. Many manufacturers are using old nameplates for new models and Jeep is no exception. After more than 25 years, we are about to see the Wagoneer once again. Of course, it will come with a completely new design this time, with modern styling, loads of new features etc. Some reports suggest it will arrive already like the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer, while others suggest we will have to wait for a little bit more. In any case, we call it a 2020 model year for this occasion.

The new model will be a flagship SUV in Jeep’s lineup. After years of waiting, FCA will finally get its player in the segment of full-size SUVs. The new model will be base on the Ram 1500, but it will come with a completely different styling approach and we have no doubt it will have a lot of interesting things to offer.

2020 Jeep Wagoneer Design

After so many years, Jeep will finally have a model to compete with genuine full-size SUVs like Tahoe and Expedition. Of course, the Wrangler is a genuine SUV, but significantly smaller. This will be a pretty large vehicle, definitely with more than 120 inches in wheelbase.

Just a quick look at FCA’s lineup and it’s easy to realize that there is just one model that can be used as the basis for 2020 Jeep Wagoneer. Of course, we are talking about the Ram 1500, which has been redesigned recently. The new SUV will ride on the same platform and share pretty much complete mechanics. Still, we also count on a couple of exclusive features. The first one that comes to mind is independent rear suspension, which became pretty much a common thing for the segment.

Styling

When it comes to the styling, we count on a typical Jeep layout. This particularly refers to the front end. The face will definitely feature the brand’s famous grille design, characterized by vertical bars. We count on a pretty conservative styling approach, so the overall look should have a lot in common with the next-generation Grand Cherokee, which is also about to come in the near future. The rest of the body will come in a typical SUV manner. A wagon-like body, long and boxy is the first thing that comes to mind. On the other side, we definitely don’t expect to see those legendary wood panels again.

2020 Jeep Wagoneer Interior

When it comes to the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer interior, only one thing is certain for now – it will be roomy. With more than 120 inches in wheelbase, there is no doubt that this cabin will offer three spacious rows of seats, with a pretty high level of comfort. The same thing goes for the cargo space, which should be among the biggest in the class.

Of course, lots of room won’t be the only characteristics of the SUV. We also count on a quite luxurious approach when it comes to the dashboard design and overall interior quality. The first thing that comes to mind is the huge touchscreen that ‘s available in the Ram 1500. Of course, we count on all other kinds of tech goodies, while the dashboard should be stylish and full of soft-touch materials. After all, Jeep never had bigger problems with the interior quality, so we don’t expect them in the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer either.

2020 Jeep Wagoneer Engines

When it comes to the powertrain lineup, we may count on FCA’s familiar units. Base models will probably stick to six cylinders. Of course, that would be a familiar 3.6-liter V6 engine, which is good for about 305 horsepower. On the other side, higher trims should come with a 5.7-liter V8, which is good for about 395 horsepower. Both engines will come with the company’s new eTorque mild hybrid system, which should have a positive impact on fuel economy.

Speaking of the fuel economy, a diesel version also seems quite possible. Of course, we are aiming at a familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which delivers quite an impressive 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.

All engines should come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Release Date and Price

Some reports suggest that the new model could come already as the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer but that sounds too ambitious to us. Moreover, it looks like the test mule won’t take the camouflage off before spring. Therefore, sales probably won’t start before the second half of 2020. When it comes to the price, we count on typical figures for the segment, which means that base models should go around 50.000 dollars.

Besides 2020 Jeep Wagoneer, we also count on the Grand Wagoneer, which should be a long-wheelbase version of this SUV. However, some reports also suggest this SUV will also be much more luxurious and compete with models like Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade
