Two years ago, Journey’s long production cycle ended. The three-row crossover was discontinued in North America after 2020 but the nameplate remained in use in some other markets, primarily in Mexico. In this Latin country, Dodge sells a rebadged version of the Trumpchi GS5. The second generation of Chinese compact crossover arrived in 2018, while the Dodge’s variant arrived in Mexican showrooms in late 2021, for the 2022 model year. Of course, we are now waiting for the 2023 Dodge Journey, which probably won’t feature bigger changes.
Although there are no bigger changes to come, the next year’s model could bring novelties in terms that it could be offered in some additional markets. This particularly refers to South America, to markets like Brazil, Chile, Argentina etc. Some sources even speculate about the U.S. comeback, but the actual probability of such a scenario isn’t too high.
2023 Dodge Journey Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Dodge Journey will represent the second production year of the new generation. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any bigger changes. Instead, we will see a familiar design, which is notably different compared to the first two generations of the nameplate. While the previous generations were three-row SUVs, the new one is smaller, a compact crossover that comes with two rows of seats and accommodates five passengers.
In terms of aesthetics, we won’t see any notable change. The 2023 Dodge Journey will carry on with the same styling, which is largely the same as the Chinese sibling. Practically, the only notable differences are at the front, where you can see Dodge’s badge instead, along with a little bit different grille and front fascia. Mechanically, the two models are identical, which means that you may count on an SUV with a refined chassis and suspension setup, which offers balanced ride quality, halfway between comfort and athleticism. The handling is sporty, but also very comfortable, thanks to the multi-link independent rear suspension.
Interior
The same thing is with interior design. The new Journey features a pretty nice cabin, characterized by fine materials and good build quality. Furthermore, there is a decent portion of tech features that make this crossover look even more upscale. Base models come with an analog cluster in a combination with a 7-inch information display, while higher trim levels come with a completely digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Furthermore, there is an 8-inch touchscreen, though it doesn’t come with a Uconnect infotainment system, but rather with the same software as GS5.
As a compact crossover, the 2023 Dodge Journey will continue with two rows of seats. The front seats are well shaped and quite comfortable, with plenty of space and a lot of adjustability options. The second row is also quite generous with space and accommodates adults pretty easily.
2023 Dodge Journey Engines
Currently, the 2023 Dodge Journey is available with just one engine. That is a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 169 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough to ensure strong performance. Furthermore, the engine comes in paired with a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin, which offers quick shift and refined overall operation.
The start-stop system is part of the standard equipment, while you may also count on selectable drive modes.
2023 Dodge Journey Release Date
We expect that the 2023 Dodge Journey will hit the Mexican market by the end of this year. Potential arrivals to new markets are expected in the near future as well.
