2022 Jeep Compass Facelift: Changes and Features

After months of debating about whether we talk about the 2022 Jeep Compass or just a major update, the new version was finally presented in China and now we are waiting for its debut in North America. From what we’ve seen in China, the new model is coming with loads of significant changes. However, this isn’t a full redesign but rather a massive update, which brings changes in numerous aspects. Of course, you will notice exterior changes first, but those on the inside are even more impressive and the new version looks way more luxurious than before.

On the other side, the overall design remains the same and we are essentially talking about the model that has been around for a while. Mechanically, it is the same model that debuted four years ago, though we won’t exclude possible changes under the hood, considering that the current model is available with just one engine. The North American version should debut next summer.

The 2022 Jeep Compass facelift brings a lot of interesting novelties. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is the styling. Changes aren’t significant but definitely are very nice. As you presume, most of them came to the front end, which comes with a revised grille design, and a few more new details. The grille opening is wider than before, while the famous vertical bars look bolder than before. Also, there is a new front bumper, which features a new shape and also slightly repositioned fog lights. The rest of the SUV remains largely the same, though we also expect to see new color options and wheels in the offer.

Another thing we should mention is that the Trackhawk version comes with several unique details. The narrower grille also comes in a combination with a reshaped, angled bumper for better off-road performance. Furthermore, you can find new red tow hooks and several more fancy details.

Interior

The new face definitely makes this crossover look better but the real deal is on the inside. There, you will find a completely new cabin that looks far better than before. Jeep designers put a lot of work on the new dashboard, which now looks very luxurious. It features a completely new shape, while the new middle section utilizes some leather(ette) material that brings an additional premium note. Of course, the new infotainment screen steals the show with its massive dimensions and tablet-like appearance. Still, a good thing is that the company has kept a decent number of physical controls, especially in terms of those climate control commands, and that is something we really like.

Furthermore, you can notice a completely new steering wheel. It features a new shape and the new, Land Rover-like airbag housing looks particularly nice. Add to this a digital instrument cluster and it becomes obvious that the difference between pre- and facelifted models is drastic. Also, the center console has been revised, so there is a new gear shifter, redesigned buttons and a new wireless charging pad. On the other side, the back part of the cabin remains largely the same, so you may count on the same amount of passenger space, which is decent for the segment.

As dimensions have remained the same, you may also count on the same amount of cargo space. In numbers, this would mean around 27 cubic feet behind the second row and nearly 60 cubic feet with rear seats folded down. Those are below-average numbers for the segment.

2022 Jeep Compass Engines

Although we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, there is a big chance to see novelties under the hood. The recent premiere in China has brought two engine options for that market. Base models use a smaller 1.3-liter engine that comes in pair with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends power to front wheels. On the other side, the bigger 1.4-liter turbo-four comes with a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission and it is available with the AWD layout as well.

The latter could easily come to the North American market. The current version comes with just a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated engine with around 180 horsepower and we definitely don’t like how it works in pair with either 6- or 9-speed transmission. The optional 1.4-liter unit would bring an additional dose of refinement, while its extra torque would make the life of Compass drivers much easier.

2022 Jeep Compass Release Date and Price

We expect the 2022 Jeep Compass release date, the American version won’t come as soon as the Chinese. We don’t expect to see it before the summer. When it comes to the price, base models should remain under 25.000 dollars.

When it comes to the competition, this is the most demanding segment in today’s automotive industry. Some of the key players are models like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape etc.

Timothy has been an FCA enthusiast way before the two major companies merged. With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona. For Timothy, FCA is a perfect match.

Ops! You forgot to mention its most direct competitor, the new Bronco Sport Badlands with the 2.0 Ecoboost with 250 hp/ 277ft-lbs torque with premium fuel. Will the new compass have a more powerful engine option than this? I really hope so!! What are they?
