Dodge’s mid-size crossover finally ended production last year, after more than a decade. This was pretty much expected, considering the model’s outdated design in pretty much every aspect. However, the management never said anything about the successor and the latest rumors suggest that this nameplate could come back already in the next year, as the 2022 Dodge Journey.
At this point, we can only rely on rumors. They say we are about to see a typical mid-size SUV layout, while Durango is about to get back to the BoF platform. The new model will ride on a new platform and feature a completely new design. This includes new engine options as well. We presume that the new model could arrive already in the next year.
2022 Dodge Journey Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, there is no doubt that the new generation would be far more advanced in every aspect. The ancient platform would be replaced with Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio architecture. Among many other things, this also means that the 2022 Dodge Journey would feature an RWD layout. Of course, this indicates a sportier character, along with superior comfort and ride quality this platform provides.
In terms of the exterior design, we expect that the new generation would feature bigger dimensions, similar to Grand Cherokee. The styling is still a mystery, but we can find some rendering photos on the network, which show a far more stylish look compared to the previous version.
Interior
The cabin of the original model didn’t look particularly attractive even at the time of the initial launch, we Dodge designers will have to put a lot of effort into the new interior design. This includes an attractive dashboard design, which would feature stylish aesthetics, along with quality materials, solid build quality etc. Naturally, we have no doubt that the 2022 Dodge Journey would also come with a long list of tech goodies, including an advanced infotainment system, safety features and more.
The new model will be bigger, so we count on more room as well. This primarily refers to the passenger space, where we count on three spacious rows of seats, all three able to accommodate an adult passenger. The cargo area should offer some respectable numbers as well.
2022 Dodge Journey Engine
This will definitely be one of the most interesting aspects of the 2022 Dodge Journey. As we already mentioned, the new model will feature an RWD layout, which promises a much sportier performance. Of course, all-wheel drive will be in offer as well.
The original model was offered with both four- and six-cylinder engines but both of these units are extremely outdated by today’s standard. Things are even worse when we look at a 30-year old automatic transmission with just four gears. The 2022 Dodge Journey will be far more modern in every aspect, starting from the engine lineup. A Pentastar V6 is expected to be standard, though a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 280 horsepower should be on the offer as well.
Still, the real deal would start with HEMI engines. We count on at least two V8 options in the offer. The first one that comes to mind is a 5.7-liter unit. The flagship model would probably feature a 6.4-liter V8 unit, though even a Hellcat engine doesn’t sound impossible, considering that FCA installs it pretty much everywhere these days.
All engines should come in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Dodge Journey Release Date and Price
We can hear these days that the 2022 Dodge Journey could arrive already in the next year. Still, keep in mind that these are just rumors and that the officials are still quiet about this comeback. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models would go somewhere between 30.000 and 35.000 dollars.
