2022 Dodge Dart Comeback Rumors

The Dart is a quite familiar nameplate in Dodge’s portfolio. It was used for a couple of models in the 60s and 70s, while the latest version was in a relatively short production, between 2013 and 2016. In all cases, it was rather a family car, designed as a sedan or hatchback, usually compact in size. However, things have changed and today’s automotive world is mostly about crossovers. So, it’s no wonder that the latest reports suggest 2022 Dodge Dart in such a form.

According to rumors, Dodge could use this nameplate once again, this time for a compact crossover. It would be the smallest SUV in the company’s lineup, positioned below the next-generaiton Journey. At this point, the officials are still quiet on this matter, so take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. For this occasion, FCA has a couple of options. Of course, there is the Chrysler’s good old Compact Wide architecture, but we feel it’s way outdated for further updates. So, the second possibility would be Alfa Romeo’s platform called Giorgio, which underprints the new Grand Cherokee. However, keep in mind that this is a premium platform, which would probably mean a little bit higher price than you would normally expect for a Dodge model.

Therefore, the third option sounds most likely in our minds. Since FCA has become a part of a bigger automotive group called Stellantis, it now has access to all kinds of new technologies, particularly from the PSA Group. This leads us to Peugeot and its EMP platform, which currently underprints models like 3008, 5008 etc. The former seems like a perfect basis for the new 2022 Dodge Dart. It is a typical compact crossover, which offers great ride quality, strong performances and a high level of overall refinement. After, keep in mind that Peugeot had plans to come back to the North American market, and this could be a good way.

How Would New Dart Look like?

The last iteration of Dart was discontinued because of the company’s pre-orientation to crossovers, while the sale numbers were actually quite decent. Therefore, there is no doubt that the new model will look like that. We count on a typical crossover design approach, while some sources even suggest a coupe-like layout, which doesn’t sound particularly likely in our ears. Also, some sources suggest a Challenger-inspired design. Interestingly, such render photos can already be seen on the network.

2022 Dodge Dart Engines

This would be a rather compact crossover, so we probably wouldn’t see large Hemi engines in the offer. Moreover, we don’t expect V6 units either. Instead, we presume that efficient turbo-fours would be the core. As the new 2022 Dodge Dart would probably ride on PSA’s architecture, we presume it would use the same engines as well. This leads us to the company’s 1.6-liter turbo-four, but FCA’s 2.0-liter turbo-four could be offered as well.

Also, keep in mind that the expected sibling, the 3008, also comes in plug-hybrid version. More precisely, there are two versions in the offer, with either 225 or 300 horsepower. The latter features an additional electric motor on the rear axle, making it an AWD vehicle.

2022 Dodge Dart Release Date and Price

At this point, it is still early to talk about such things. The 2022 Dodge Dart is still just a rumor, while the officials are completely quiet. Still, if the new Dart arrives one day, we presume it would feature a typical price for the segment, which is currently around 25.000 dollars for base versions.

Timothy

Timothy has been an FCA enthusiast way before the two major companies merged. With an innate passion for muscle cars from the golden era, Ram trucks and anything that has a huge engine under the hood, it’s not hard to presume that Timothy is a true motorhead. On the other side, classic Italian sports cars have always had a special place in his heart, as a sense of style and sophistication is an integral part of his persona. For Timothy, FCA is a perfect match.
