2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck: What We Know So Far

Mid-size pickup has a pretty decent share on the market these days, so it’s no wonder that many new models have arrived in the last couple of years. Of course, there is a brand-new Gladiator, while the Ranger has also come back. Also, keep in mind that the completely redesigned Frontier is coming for the next year. As one of the most famous truck makers, Ram definitely wants its piece of cake, so it’s no wonder that rumors about the new 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck are numerous.

At this point, we still don’t know how the new model will be called. Some sources suggest the well-known Dakota name, while others suggest the Rampage nameplate. For now, we will call it 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck. What’s more important at the moment is that we know it will be a genuine BoF pickup truck, which will put the focus on performances and utility but should borrow plenty of Ram 1500’s luxury features as well. Most likely, the new model will hit the market next year.

2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck Design

The company still manages to hide most details about the new 2021 Ram Dakota midsize pickup truck. However, some of the design characteristics and features are already a certain thing. For example, there is no doubt that the new model will feature a genuine BoF layout. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. It’s not hard to make the conclusion that this truck will ride on the same platform as Gladiator and Wrangler. These models will share most of the mechanics, including engines and many other things. However, the 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck is about to come with completely different styling and we also presume that the company will try to make it far more affordable and approachable to a wider range of buyers.

Styling

As we’ve just mentioned, Ram will probably aim for a much lower starting price compared to Gladiator. Therefore, one of the first things that come to mind is that the 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck will probably be offered in a single cab layout, which isn’t the case with Jeep’s truck. Therefore, you may count on at least two body styles in the offer. In terms of aesthetics, we have no doubt that the new mid-size pickup truck will stick pretty close to the full-size 1500, just in a smaller package, of course. This means it will be adapted to the brand’s newest design language, which has dropped the legendary crosshair grille layout but still comes with the quite recognizable design. Of course, there is always enough room for exclusive details but from what we can see on the rendering photos, the two models will look very similar.

Interior

Once again, we count on a lot of influence from the full-size 1500 model. The 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck will probably come with a similar dashboard design approach, which, though the overall level of luxury and opulence will be on a slightly lower level. Still, that doesn’t mean that the new 2021 Dodge midsize pickup will lack any luxury. Moreover, this should be one of its strongest points, as the competition in the segment is getting pretty crowded these days. We probably won’t see that huge 12-inch touchscreen in the offer, but an 8.4-inch unit with FCA’s excellent infotainment system seems like a certain thing.

As we already mentioned, the new model will probably come in two body-styles in the offer. The base single cab model will come with just one row of seats. On the other side, the double cab model will be pretty spacious, especially if it’s going to feature the same wheelbase as Gladiator, which is very generous in terms of the legroom.

2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck Engines

When it comes to powertrain, we expect no surprises, so base models should come with a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A more efficient 2.0-liter turbo-four with around 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque should be available too. Some sources suggest a diesel version too. Of course, that would be a well-known 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, probably tuned to around 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

When it comes to transmission, we presume that each engine will come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, some of the engines could be offered with a 6-speed manual too.

2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck Release Date and Price

Although we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, we presume that the new truck will hit the market sometime in the next year. When it comes to the price, we expect that the 2021 Ram Mid-Size Truck will feature starting price under 30.000 dollars. Key competitors will be models like Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger etc.
