Once one, today two brands. Dodge and Ram may be separate, but they both stick to the classic American-style automotive philosophy, and that’s why we like them. For the next year, there are some pretty interesting things to come, even though we won’t be seeing any full redesign. Instead, a good portion of important updates has already been confirmed, while we are also eagerly waiting for the first all-electric models. The Ram Revolution is almost ready, while the first-ever all-electric iterations of the iconic muscle cars, Charger and Challenger, are also in development.
The HD lineup will most likely carry on in the same way, though there are reports that strongly suggest upgrades under the hood, particularly in terms of the diesel engine. The recently introduced Dodge Hornet is also coming with a big novelty for the next year, as it’s about to get a plug-in hybrid version. As for the old hooks like Durango, it looks like it still isn’t time for a redesign. Without further ado, let’s see what to expect from the 2024 Dodge and Ram lineup:
Ram 1500
The half-ton version of RAM’s pickup has been the main seller of the brand for years. The current generation is still relatively fresh but that doesn’t mean that big novelties aren’t coming for the next year. More precisely, the 2024 Ram 1500 will finally come in an all-electric version. After the concept version, which featured a pretty dramatic design, the company recently presented a production version, which will be toned down and feature a very similar design to the gas-powered model. The overall shape is the same, while the key difference is at the front, where the Ram Revolution features unique lighting groups and grille design.
So far, the officials have been quiet about the power figures or battery capacity. On the other hand, we found out that this pickup is going to feature a class-leading range, of up to 500 miles. Also, we know that the new pickup will feature a 350-kW battery technology and it will be able to add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. We also found out that the company is planning to offer a version with a gasoline engine, which would serve as a range extender.
On the other hand, standard gas-powered models are expected to carry on in the same way. There will be several variants on offer, including three well-known powertrain options, starting from the good-old 3.6-liter V6. Ranger topping models will feature a good-old 5.7-liter V8 with 395 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter V6 diesel will be available too.
The 2024 Ram 1500 will arrive later this year, with a starting price of around 40.000 dollars.
Ram 1500 TRX
Although officially a part of the 1500’s lineup, the TRX has always been seen as a separate model. That’s not a surprise if we consider the number of exclusive features. This model comes with a full load of exclusive styling details and off-road upgrades. Still, the most important thing about it has always been the engine, that monstrous 6.2-liter Supercharged V8.
The next year’s model won’t feature bigger changes. We will see the same powertrain setup, with the Hellcat engine that puts out 702 horsepower. With such an impressive power output, it’s not a surprise that a large pickup like this one is able to hit 60 in just 3.7 seconds. This is a genuine desert runner, with massive 35-inch all-terrain tires, 11.8 inches of ground clearance and 13 inches of suspension travel.
We don’t expect bigger changes in terms of price for the next year, so base models should go around 87.000 dollars.
Ram 2500
Ram’s entry-level HD pickup has so many things to offer and it looks like things could become even better, as there are reports that suggest powertrain upgrades for the 2024 model year. Namely, the current model comes available only with one version of the Cummins turbodiesel engine, with 370 horsepower and 850 pounds-feet of torque. Considering that both Silverado 2500 and F-250 have recently received massive powertrain upgrades, many expect Ram to unlock the more powerful version of this inline-six, with 420 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque, which is currently exclusive to the 3500 model. Some sources also speculate about the old 6-speed Aisin transmission being replaced, but that’s still on a long stick. On the other hand, gas-powered models will carry on with a 6.4-liter V8 and 8-speed automatic transmission.
Other than the powertrain upgrade, we don’t believe that the 2024 Ram 2500 could feature bigger changes, and that’s not an issue at all. Simply, the current model already leads the segment in many aspects, starting from ride quality and interior design. These two aspects make Ram 2500 not just capable, but also extremely refined, which is a pretty valuable trump card in the segment these days. Another thing we like about this pickup is that it comes in two very capable off-road versions, Rebel and Power Wagon.
Despite the potential powertrain upgrade, we don’t expect to see the 2024 Ram 2500 before the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 46.500 dollars.
Ram 3500
Just like the 2500 model, the 1-ton version of the pickup also offers exceptional capabilities and combines them with an impressive level of comfort and convenience. No other pickup combines these things in such a nice fashion, but some updates may still come, once again, in terms of powertrain. The same sources suggest that base models will come standard with a more powerful version of the turbodiesel engine, with 420 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, range-topping models could get further engine upgrades, something that would match the new version of Ford’s V8 turbodiesel, which now offers 1.200 pound-feet of torque.
Other than the powertrain upgrades, we don’t expect to see bigger changes. A few minor tweaks are possible here and there but the overall layout will remain on offer. This includes the trim level organization too, which includes familiar monikers like Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Longhorn and Limited etc.
The current model starts at around 47.500 dollars and we don’t expect bigger changes in the future.
Ram Dakota
Rumors about Dakota’s comeback have been circulating for years and now it looks like something is actually happening. According to rumors, the new model is already in development and it is expected to arrive next year. The company will use a well-known moniker to come back to the mid-size pickup segment, where competition seems tougher than ever. The three key players in the segment, Tacoma, Colorado and Ranger will be very fresh for the next year, so Dakota will have to offer a lot of great things to stand out.
So far, we know that the new mid-size pickup will be based on the Ram 1500. It is expected to ride on the same platform and share a lot of parts with the full-size sibling. Also, we are hearing reports about Ram’s plans to offer more than one cab style, which would be a great thing if we consider that most rivals have reduced their offer to crew cab/short bed layout. As for the powertrain, we expect a broad range of options, including the company’s new inline-six Hurricane engine. A plug-in hybrid setup is also very likely.
Ram Rampage
The new Ford Maverick has shaken the whole automotive industry with its smart design. This pickup is compact, easy to drive, efficient and affordable, so it’s no wonder that the demand for it is extreme these days. Also, it’s no wonder that many other companies plan to join the newly formed segment. Toyota already prepares a comeback of the legendary Stout nameplate, while Ram is allegedly working on the new Rampage.
Of course, Ram would use the same recipe as the Blue Oval company and offer a small pickup that rides on a unibody platform and acts rather as a crossover than a classic body-on-frame pickup. Of course, we also count on various powertrain options, including some sort of electrification. That will most likely be a hybrid setup, but we wouldn’t exclude the possibility of seeing a fully-electric version at some point in the future as well.
Dodge Charger
Dodge recently present a concept version of the next-generation, all-electric Charger, with some pretty exciting design solutions. From what we know so far, the company promises a max range of up to 500 miles, while there will be at least two versions in terms of powertrain. Base models will feature a setup with 455 horsepower, while a more powerful variant should offer 590 horsepower.
Still, Dodge engineers have many more things to do to prepare the new model for serial production, so the 2024 Charger will most likely be the final production year of the gas-powered version. For that reason, we don’t believe there could be bigger changes. This massive muscle sedan should continue with familiar design and powertrain options.
Speaking of the powertrain options, this sedan has always been known for its broad range of capable engines. The base version is the only one that features six cylinders, while the rest of the lineup is all about V8 units. This includes a couple of naturally-aspirated HEMI engines, 5.7- and 6.4-liter units, as well as a monstrous Hellcat engine, which is available in three versions, with either 717, 797 or 807 horsepower.
Dodge Challenger
Although we still haven’t seen a concept of the next-generation Challenger, we have no doubt that the legendary sports coupe will follow the same path as the Charger. The next generation will go all-electric, while the 2024 model is likely to be the last one with traditional internal-combustion engines. Therefore, we don’t believe there could be more significant changes.
Of course, we might see a few minor upgrades, but the overall design will certainly remain the same. What’s more important, the powertrain lineup is about to remain the same. Just like in the case of Charger, the offer will start with a 3.6-liter V6, while a 375-hp 5.7-liter V8 will be the first upgrade. Of course, there is the 475-hp 6.4-liter engine, as well as the super-capable 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine, which comes in three output variants. Just like the Charger, the Challenger Hellcat is also available with 717, 797 and 807 horsepower.
Dodge Durango
We’ve been hearing stories about Durango’s redesign and return to the body-on-frame platform for years but it looks like the company doesn’t rush at all, and why would it? The current generation may be old but it’s still a strong competitor. More importantly, the sales numbers are good. This is one of the rare old-school three-row SUVs on the market, and besides its rugged design, it has many more things to offer.
One of them is the updated interior, which is still by far the most refined in the class but now features one of the best infotainment systems in the class. The list of standard and available equipment is also very long, while the cabin is really spacious. Besides plenty of passenger space, you may also count on a very generous cargo area, with 85 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
Last year, the Hellcat-powered version came back, so Durango is once again the most powerful gas-powered SUV on the market, with 710 horsepower. For those who don’t need that much power, there are several more powertrain options on offer, starting from the base 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower. The optional 5.7-liter V8 offers great exhaust notes, as well as a pretty respectable 360 horsepower. If that’s not enough for you you can pay extra and get areal naturally-aspirated symphony from the 475-hp 6.4-liter Hemi engine.
With no bigger updates to come, we expect that the 2024 Dodge Durango will hit the market sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 39.000 dollars.
Dodge Hornet
The Hornet debuted as a brand new model recently and it represents a little bit more mainstream take on the small crossover design. The more luxurious version is sold under Alfa Romeo’s badge, but this model benefits from many shared design solutions and technologies. The 2024 Dodge Hornet will represent the second production year and it won’t lack novelties at all. Moreover, it will come with a new, plug-in hybrid powertrain option on offer.
The new plug-in hybrid setup will join the standard 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 268 horsepower. This setup is based on a small 1.3-liter turbo-four engine and offers a max output of 288 horsepower. Unlike the base turbo-four, which comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission, this version uses a 6-speed automatic and it also comes standard with all-wheel drive. It is almost a second quicker when and completes a 0-60 sprint in just 5.6 seconds.
On the inside, this crossover features two spacious rows of seats and a relatively decent cargo area with 27 cubic feet of room behind the second row and 54.7 cubic feet in total. The list of standard equipment is very long and includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system and four USB ports.
When it comes to price, the gas-powered model is expected to cost around 32.000, while the new plug-in hybrid version will probably feature a starting price of around 42.500 dollars.
